This is an introduction to the basic principles of framing. It is aimed at complete novices in framing, as well as those who have made some attempts to frame their own work.  There is no need for any experience of using hand tools: of course any you do have will be a bonus!

We take you through the core skills involved in making a frame to suit a piece of work that you bring with you.  You find out about:

  • the key elements of a framed picture – what each bit does; 
  • how to cut  a mount using specialised cutters;
  • the correct methods for  attaching a picture to the mount;  
  • cutting moulding and joining sections to create a frame for the mounted picture; 
  • finding out about simple options for adding a finish to the frame; 
    how to cut glass and backing board to fit the frame and finally  assembling the framed picture, ready for hanging.

You will leave the course with a piece of your own work, framed – saving you around £40.00 and a visit to town!
